Descendants of John Pascal Glover, Jr. Generation No. 1 1. R EV. JOHN PASCAL3 GLOVER, JR. (JOHN PASCHAL2, JOHN1) was born October 17, 1814 in Putnam Co., Georgia, and died August 21, 1879 in Taylor Co. Georgia. He married MATILDA VINSON May 02, 1840 in Crawford Co, Ga., daughter of HENRY VINSON. She was born April 10, 1825, and died February 02, 1885 in Taylor Co. Georgia.Notes for R EV. JOHN PASCAL GLOVER, JR.:From the will of John P. Glover, Sr. , father of John. P. Glover. John P. Glover was living in Reynolds, Taylor County, Ga. Sept. 12, 1862. Pastor of Bethel Primitive Baptist Church 1860-1867, Reynolds, Taylor County, Ga. He died from Typhoid Fever in 1879 and appears on the mortality index for 1880 Taylor County. The mortality index shows that he was born in Ga. and that his parents were both born in SC. The doctor that attended him was a relative of his wife Pauline Christopher. Elder John P. Glover Elder John P. Glover departed this life at his home in Taylor county, Ga., on the 21st day of August, 1879, after an illness of four days with typhoid fever. He was born in Putnam county, Ga. the 17 th of October, 1814, and born of the spirit in 1839, and at his death had been a minister of the gospel about twenty-five years. When the news of his death was brought to us it filled us with sadness, that such a man as he was should be taken from a world in which there were so few like him, and in which it seemed to us, he was so greatly needed. He was a model man, Christian and minister. He was a good minister; simple and affectionate in his manners; grave and serious in his conversation, fervent in spirit, diligent in duty serving the lord in humility and godly sincerity. He was ever at the feet of his brethren, esteeming others better than himself, and always preferring them in honor. He was an affectionate husband, a tender and prudent father, bringing his children up in a nurture and admonition of the Lord; a kind and charitable neighbor, and a useful citizen. The church and his family are not alone in their bereavement at this death, but society at large, in his section of the country, suffers a loss in him that will be hard to repair. He was a man acquainted with affliction, not having enjoyed a day of perfect health in perhaps thirty-five years. It was my privilege to have been with him a great deal in the last twenty years of his life, and I was an eye witness not only of his afflictions but of his patient submission to them. I was drawn to him last October, having had the privilege of accompanying him to the Primitive Western Association in Coweta county. He was so feeble and exhausted by the trip, that he could preach but a short time at the meeting, but seemed to be very thankful that he was permitted to do that. We stayed one night with three aged sisters in the flesh, and in the Lord, who met at the Association, and I was forcible struck with his great humility in talking to them, and the happy privilege he felt it to be to speak a word of comfort to them and bow with them in prayer. He said to me "maybe, this is what we came all the way to this Association for, to have this meeting with these old sisters." He leaves a widow and seven children, and though he was so afflicted and feeble, he leaves a competency for his bereaved family. Sister Glover's loss and trial is indeed very great to lose the husband of her youth in her feeble old age, but the separation will be but a little while; and she is greatly blessed in good sons and daughters to stay her in her last days; and above all, in the assurance that her dear husband is at rest, and in the hope that when her time comes that she will go where he has gone. He was a blessing to the Church, in this section of country, and though he is gone, his gift-a gracious one indeed will like the mantel of the prophet of old, fall upon some one whom God has prepared for it. He was a member of New Hope Church, Taylor county, a Church of the Eutopie Association and was besides the pastor of the Church at Bethlehem Church of this county. His end was peace. J. R. Respess The Gospel Messenger October 1879

Confederate Reminiscences by Mrs. Maggie Glover Beall (excuse any typing errors) Mrs. Pauline Christopher Glover of Reynolds, Ga, who was a girl of sixteen years of age at the beginning of the War Between the States, told to her daughter, Mrs. Maggie Glover Beall, this reminiscence as one of her experiences during the four years from 1861 to 1865. It was perhaps one of the most exciting ones experienced by her, since it was the only time Reynolds and vicinity were invaded by the Federal soldiers. It occurred at about the time Sherman's army was causing so much devastation and misery in other parts of Georgia. This group of invaders was composed of a company of cavalrymen known as Wilson's Raiders, a branch of Sherman's Army sent out to destroy Confederate property. These cavalrymen were dressed in flaming red shirts. They caused terror in the hearts of the citizenry when they came from town of Columbus and galloped briskly through the main street of town. They galloped on about a quarter of a mile south on the Oglethorpe road where the Confederate Government maintained a wagon factory and a repair shop for cannon and vehicles necessary for the transportation of army supplies. This they quickly burned down and then returned to town taking anything that struck their fancy. They made the Negroes gather all the eggs and other articles of food and cook them for their men to eat. As the news of their coming reached the town every family selected a trusted Negro man slave to take all their horses and mules together with their silver, china and other valuables to the swamps of the Flint River and Patsilaga Creek to a safe hiding place. These were accompanied by any young son under sixteen years of age and any Confederate soldier who happened to be at home on furlough. The commanding officer told my grandfather, Dr. W.H. Christopher, that they had orders not to molest any property other than that of the Confederate Government. But it was impossible to keep the men from petty thefts. The people had been so terrorized at their coming and felt so relieved that their homes and other possessions had been spared that they little minded these small depredations. These soldiers told the Negroes they would soon be freed and a number of them ran away and followed the Northern soldiers. Wilson's Raiders went South from Reynolds through Macon County to Underwood's Ferry where they crossed the Flint River in an effort to join that branch of Sherman's Army at Marshallville. They were trying to reach Milledgeville and Macon but was repulsed by the Home Guard which was composed of all the men over military age and young boys under sixteen. The Home Guard did much valuable service in protection helpless women and children.
